What is a CO2 Laser Machine?

A CO2 laser uses a stream of carbon dioxide to create a very intense light that can cut a wide range of materials when it is heated up to its ignition point. It uses the latest machining technology to guarantee precision work and a fast turnaround. CO2 laser engravers and cutters are highly precise and can be used to create designs, decorations, and the like on just about any material you can think of, including wood, plastic, metal, and paper to name a few.

Melt and Blow

The laser beam will first heat the material until it has reached a liquid state. Then, a jet of high-pressure, non-reactive gas like nitrogen is used to blow the molten material out of the area being cut. This method allows for lower energy use to achieve the same cut depth.

Reactive Cutting

This process is generally used on materials that are easily oxidized, such as steel or titanium. The laser beam heats up a localized area, and a high-pressure stream of oxygen is directed onto this area. This oxygen essentially causes the metal to oxidize and burn. The metal oxides are then blown from the cut by the oxygen stream.

Vaporization Cutting

This process does not make use of any high-pressure gasses. It  relies solely on the heat energy from the laser beam to sublimate the material being cut. This means that the heat causes the material to transition directly from a solid phase to a gas phase. This process is only possible with materials that have low vaporization temperatures, like plastic.

Advantages of CO2 Laser Machine

High Precision

CO2 lasers can be focused on very narrow points with diameters as small as 100 microns, thereby allowing for very precise application of energy for cutting as well as for precise medical procedures.

Versatility

CO2 lasers can be used on a wide variety of different materials including: metal, tissue, wood, plastic, and diamond. Applications can include cutting metal, artistic engraving, medical resurfacing as well as industrial rust removal from metal.

High Speed

CO2 lasers can cut at high speeds, especially if a high-energy laser is used. The beam can also change targets extremely quickly when making use of a mirror that is directed with highly accurate servo motors.

Automation

CO2 lasers can be easily automated, especially in the industrial sector. In fact, the speed with which lasers can cut necessitates automation to achieve optimal efficiency.

Application of CO2 Laser Machine

Carbon Dioxide Laser Welding

During welding two components are joined using a material. High temperatures are needed in the process of melting and then joining the material but however temperature must not be high enough to evaporate the material. Two dissimilar metals can be joined using a carbon dioxide laser. Carbon dioxide laser welding is used in the manufacture of aircrafts and automobiles. Laser welding is also used in electronics.

Carbon Dioxide Laser Cutting

CO2 laser cutting processing technique for sheets that utilizes a gas laser that is electrically driven. A carbon dioxide laser is used to remove part of a material from a substance. Materials cut can be metal or nonmetal such as titanium, stainless steel, ceramic glass, plastic and wood.

Marking

Marking lasers are a fast and efficient method for marking any type of material with more accuracy than mechanical or chemical engraving methods. The precision of carbon dioxide lasers prevents burning and other damage to material being marked. Lines, curves, and text are cleanly and clearly engraved over large areas with consistency and efficiency.

Working Principle of CO2 Laser Machine

In a CO2 laser cutter, light is produced when electricity runs through a gas-filled tube with mirrors at both ends. One mirror is fully reflective while the other one lets some light come through. These mirrors guide the laser beam into the material that is to be cut. The gas is typically a mixture of carbon dioxide, nitrogen, hydrogen, and helium.

Any light produced by CO2 lasers is extremely powerful compared to normal light. This is because of the mirrors that bookend the tube of gases. These mirrors reflect most of the light traveling through the tube and cause the light waves to build in intensity. The light only passes through the partially reflective mirror when it becomes bright enough.

Since the light from a laser is infrared, it is invisible to the human eye. It also has a very long wavelength. It can cut a variety of materials, including cloth, wood, metal, glass, and paper. The intense heat from this light vaporizes the material that is going to be cut, leaving an accurate, smooth finish.

Depending on the look you are going for on your material and what material you are cutting or engraving, the speed and power settings can be decreased and increased. Testing your material beforehand is a good practice and will get you closer to perfect results, every time.

Daily Maintenance Tips for CO2 Laser Machine

1. Change of Water and Water Tank Cleaning

Note: the machine work before must ensure that the laser tube is full of circulating water.

Circulating water quality and water temperature directly affects the service life of the laser tube, it is recommended to use pure water and to control the water temperature below 35 degree Celsius. For more than 35 degree Celsius to replace the circulating water, or to add ice to reduce the water temperature, water (cooling machine, suggest the user select or use two-tank).

Clean water tank: first, turn the power off and remove water inlet pipe, let the laser tube of water into the tank automatically, open the water tank, pump and clear the dirt on the water pump. Good clean water tank clean, replace the circulating water, the water pump to restore back into the water tank, the connection pipe inserted into the inlet of the pump, tidy up the joint. The pump power alone, and run 2 to 3 minutes (the laser tube is full of circulating water).

2. Cleanness of the Fan

After long time use, it can make the fan inside the accumulation of a lot of solid dust, let the fan make a big noise, in addition to flavor and is unfavorable to the exhaust. When appear insufficient suction fan smoke not free, turn off the power supply first, will be discharged into the duct and the duct on the fan, remove the inside of the dust, and then put the fan on, and pull out the inside of the blades, until clean, then put the fan installed. Then it can support the co2 laser machine well working.

3. Lens Cleaning

Machine is introduced in front, has talked about carving machine has three pieces of reflector and 1 piece of focusing mirror (1 reflector in the laser tube, the launch of the exit is at the upper left of the machine, the reflector is in the left side of the beam’s #2 and #3 mirrors in laser head on top of the fixed part, is located in the lower part of the laser focusing mirror adjustable lens barrel), after focusing laser is through the lens reflex, emitted from a laser. Lenses can easily touch dirt or other contaminants, cause loss or damage of lens of laser, no. 1 and no. 2 don’t must be removed, while the lens cleaning need to dip in cleaning fluid to clean lens paper carefully wipe up along one edge of the lens central to rotary. No. 3, lens and focus lens from the frame, in the same way, to wipe, wipe after the completion of the same back then.

Ultimate FAQ Guide to CO2 Laser Machine

Q: How Old Is The Original Shaft?

A: It's difficult to appreciate from today's perspective the impact Shaft made in 1971, and Roundtree, who died on Tuesday, aged 81, was a huge part of that. He wasn't just “the first Black action hero”, he introduced a whole new type of Black masculinity to mainstream cinema.

Q: What is the difference between CO2 laser cutter and fiber laser cutting machine?

A: What is the difference between CO2 laser cutter and fiber laser cutting machine?
Fiber laser cutting machine is also one of the most commonly used laser cutter machine. Different from the gas laser tube and optical transmission of the CO2 laser machine, the fiber laser cutting machine uses a fiber laser and a cable to transmit the laser beam. The wavelength of the fiber laser beam is only 1/10 of that generated by a CO2 laser. So compared to the CO2 laser cutting machine, the fiber laser cutting machine can reveal better consistency and reliability, and can process finer patterns.

Q: What can a CO2 laser machine do?

A: A CO2 laser engraver can cut and engrave metal materials, its efficiency is low. So the CO2 laser machine is mainly for cutting and engraving non-metal materials. For instance, wood, acrylic, paper, leather, fabric, etc. A fiber laser cutter, also known as a metal laser cutting machine, is mainly for metal materials.
